On Tuesday we had a great time learning about the letter c, triangles, skunks, the color orange, and about Carolyne, who was the spotlight.
The letter C:
We read a book about a girl named little c and all the items she found that began with a c. She placed all the items in her box and came across a castle with a clown, where they had a party with all of her c items and more! Pictures of the items she found were taped around the room. As we read the story, the children got to find the matching picture and at it to our box. When we were done, we pulled them back out of the box and learned about things that started with a c!
We also learned that cupcakes and candycorns began with a c, so we frosted cupcakes for our snack time. Before they frosted their cupcake, they practiced writing a c in their frosting.
The children colored the letter c and glued on candycorns, and practiced writing c's in their books.
We looked at a candycorn and discussed its shape. We made triangles with candycorns.
Before our snack time we discussed that the colors yellow and red mixed to make orange. I demonstrated this with a cup of water. The kids were amazed to watch it turn each color. We then died our frosting orange and then the kids decorated their cupcakes with orange frosting. We also discussed the colors in our candycorns.
Skunks:
We began with dancing to a song about skunks and discussed things we already knew about skunks. I then read a book about skunks. We learned that skunks spray their enemies as protection to themselves. They live near water. They have poor eyesight, and short stubby legs so they waddle when they walk. An owl is not effected by a skunks spray, as they have a poor sense of smell. Skunks can be black with a white stripe, or have many white stripes. They can also be brown with a white stripe. We made little skunk decorations using white paint and flour.
We learned that Carolyne loves pizza, watermelon, corn on the cob, chicken nuggets, and anything with sugar in it. She loves going to her gymnastics class and loves playing the violin. She even played a short song for the kids! She loves playing with dressups and cars!
Awesome Afton! Thanks for posting all this. You did so many fun activities and McKinley learned a ton!
