Week 7

{Thursday}

Today we learned about the letter x, bees, and had show and tell with either something that started with a c or was orange.

Show and Tell:
The letter X:
We started out looking at our phonics cards and learning what the sound x made. We listened to a song about the letter x and talked about how a xylophone starts with the letter x. Each student was able to take a turn playing the xylophone while we sang along to the x song. The children then colored and cut out a xylophone and used the mallets to make an x on the top of it.

We then practiced making x's out of licorice and then practiced writing x's in their book.

We went on a treasure hunt where we found x's at each place......and of course at the end where a big x marked the spot!
Bees:
We looked at pictures of bees and learned that they have antennae to help them smell. We also learned that the buzzing sound a bee makes is actually from their wings vibrating. Bees have excellent eye sight and can see almost all colors except for red. They can see colors that we cant, such as shades of ultraviolet. Bees have stingers that are only used if they are really upset or angry. Bees are the only insect that produce something that humans can eat. They make honey to store in the winter so they have something to ear when there are not enough flowers to feed on.

We pretended to be bees flying around and created a beehive.

We read a take home book about bees. Each of the kids found a partner and read it to them.
